Should my Mom be able to read my texts?

Ok my mom bought me a cell phone. I text a lot and one day I was in the bathroom and I left my phone in the kitchen. My phone started ringing and it was a text message. So my mom answered it and read it. It wasnt anything personal but still it wasnt intended to her. Anyways, I was like, “Mom why are you reading my messages?” And my mom was like, “It was ringing and dont ask me that. I bought you the phone im paying for the phone so I can do what I want with the phone.” Is that fair? Should she be able to do this?

Answer #1

NO NO NO NO she should not read your text messages my mom read mine and now I dont have a phone so if you can put a lock on your text so only you can read em!!!

Answer #2

Hell no! That’s invasion of privacy! That’s total disrespect and well I’m a lot more private person so I don’t take lightly to things like that.

Answer #3

just cause she bought the phone for you doesnt give her the right to go through your messages without your permission

she bought the phone for you so therefore its yours and she shouldnt have the right to do that.

Answer #4

Dear wonderpetsrule, If the land line phone rings…don’t answer it. If someone comes to the door don’t answer it. When you’re hungry don’t go to the fridge or cupboard. When you’re tired do not use the bed etc. These all do not belong to you. How silly right…she answered a phone because it was ringing. If she wanted to snoop she has all the right to…it’s the parents who snoop who don’t bail their kids out of jail or bury them. Allow mom to be a mom…you may not believe this but not everyone has mom’s who care. Sue…good luck

Answer #5

your mom had no right to read your messages even if it was not personal it was meant for you not her and it could have been taken out of context you should discuss this with your mother and tell her to respect you privacy

Answer #6

Do you pay for it? If she pays for it, she can do whatever she wants with it. She’s technically letting you use HER phone. Be grateful she got you one and don’t whine so much.
