Why does my mom think im not happy?
juss cuz i dont smile or talk all the time doesnt mean anything?
When people are happy, usually they have some kind of a glow or spirit to them that kind of shows it. Smiles show it, laughter shows it, being social can show it..
Being neutral definitely doesn’t necessarily mean that a person is unhappy, but because of the view above, often it is interpreted that way.
Possibly a personality difference. One of my clients was an introvert and her mother an extrovert. It led to a lot of clashes and conflict because they didnt understand each other. Mom thought daughter was depressed because she liked to spend time alone reading, and daughter hated mom dragging her everywhere. It’s just a matter of how people think. Maybe to your mother, being quiet and not smiling a lot is what would happen if she were unhappy. So she thinks you’re unhappy.
Maybe she has seen a change in your behavior or you two clash or even she sences it. I know my mom knows when i am not happy because she can see it in my eyes even if i do smile she sees that my eyes arent happy….
