what happens if you mix a pill that contains codeine/acetaminophen with alcohol?

Answer #1

Dangerous side effects or death can occur when alcohol is combined with a narcotic pain medicine…

I have heard of people that took codeine, and went drinking and partying. They stopped breathing, and had to be rushed to the ER. They didn’t get out for a week.

Answer #2

what if its only a shots worth i know people who have dont it and nothing really happend

Answer #3

In moderation, the effects may be minimal, but it really can be a dangerous thing to do.

Answer #4

sigh ¬_¬ Do whatever you want. Maybe you will learn to follow the directions on pills. I am not sure if just a shot will do anything…but why take the risk? What is the point in only taking one shot anyway?

Answer #5

I wouldn’t drink anything…just to be on the safe side. But you are free to do whatever you want. If you want to take a risk, then go ahead. I don’t recommend it though.

Answer #6

im not going to take it my friend is…he usually takes extacy all the time and he said codeine is way less effective and dangerous

Answer #7

Codeine and ecstasy aren’t even comparable, idk why he’s even use those two in the same sentance. Codeine is the bottom of the chain when it comes to pain killers. Mixing any pill with alcohol can cause a lot of problems though. I used to do that and would black out and either need to get my stomach pumped or just would throw up a lot. It’s hardly worth it.

Answer #8

so if you usually take extacy all the time you should really not have a problem handling codeine while drinkin then right?

Answer #9

NO not at all, you dont EVER mix alcohol with pills. I said ecstasy and codeine are two totally different things, taking ecstasy a lot wont make you any less likely to overdose then the next person. Your friend probably wont feel anything off codeine, that doesn’t mean it’s not in his system and that it wont interact negatively with alcohol though.

Answer #10

I know it has killed many celebrities. Not a good combination.

Answer #11

Just loopy and stuff

Answer #12

Some medications are synergistic and combine in ways that the effects instead of being simply additive are greatly magnified.

Karan Anne Quinlan famously mixed alcohol, Darvon, and Valium at a party and later went into respiratory collapse and the resulting brain damage put her in a persistent vegetative state until she died over a decade later.

Combining depressants really isn’t a good idea unless dosages are titrated by a doctor familiar with the medications and their potential interactions. Alcohol and codeine are both depressants.
