Lethal injections

Why do they sterilize needles for lethal Injections?

Answer #1

In case something should go wrong, there is no reason to subject a prisoner to a lingering staph infection while he awaits his next execution date. There are numerous instances of lethal injections that fail or need to be called off either due to a failure of the drug mixture, an inability to find a suitable vein, a last-minute stay of execution, et cetera

This is one of those questions that people like to throw around to illustrate the absurdity of certain situations, but just like “Why don’t they make the whole airplane out of black-box material if it’s indestructible???” the answers to those kinds of questions are generally pretty straightforward.
