Does anyone in here have a lawn mowing business?

So my boyfriend and I are starting a lawn mowing business and I was wondering if there is anyone out there that can offer some advice. We are both in highschool but sense it’s summer and neither of us can find a job we decided to do this because we need to start saving for college as we wil be seniors next school year. Any tips will help Thank!!

I live in a small community of less than 100 people, and i do many peoples lawns but i woulsnt consider it a “buisness” i guess, snce im the only teen in the town, they get me. I wouls reccomend keeping in contact with your “client” and keep a good eye on the weather forecast. If it calls for rain, i would try to cut it before, if not as soon as possible afterwards. Try to cut the grass weekly, but it all depends on how quickly it grows. Everyone has a different pay-rate, it all depends on the size of yard, and if im using their lawn mower and gas or mine. I on average get $10 -$20 for small yards

Great idea. I don’t have one but I’ve used several. I know the equipment can be expensive, though. You’d probably need a lawn tractor, a lawn mower and a weedwacker/grass trimmer thing.

If you’re just going to do small lawns then no need for a tractor. But do try and get contracts with people for the whole season, rather than just one-offs. Plan to mow once a week until July/August when you can probably go once every two weeks. Leave the cut grass on the lawns because it acts as good fertilizer.

Good luck!

Pass out flyers, offer discounts for ppl who refer thr friends and you do there lawn, maybe even get buisness cards, you can get those done pretty cheap, just so you look more professional, offer free estimates for the people who call, get an estimate and have you do the work, offer discounts for seniors. I know that sounds like a lot of giveing but believe me it pays off in the end
