Oops, sorry I didn't see this until now Ruby!
What you said here is basically right. There are other differences besides whether Jesus was the moshiach (Hebrew for messiah) or not. One is over what it means for someone to be the moshiach. That difference also has to do with the question of monotheism vs. a trinitarian concept of G!d. Another major difference is over what we (Jews) call the "oral Torah," which was given to us along with the written Torah. Other differences evolved over time.
In addition to religious differences, there is also a long history of Christian polemic against Judaism and oppression of Jews, beginning when the Roman Empire adopted Christianity as the official state religion, and continuing down to recent times. The polemic often colors Christian perceptions of Judaism and Jews even now, and the history of oppression colors many Jews' perceptions of Christianity and Christians.
Ruby, where and from whom have you been learning about these things, from Jews and Christians in the Roman Empire to breaking the glass at a Jewish wedding?
Janicee's answer is basically right. It also serves as a sort of ice-breaker: The moment the glass (a drinking glass, not a bottle) is smashed, the celebration begins!
At a deeper level, it's a reminder of the indelible point of suffering that is with us even in the midst of our highest joys, just as the Kaddish prayer that we say when mourning our departed loved ones is a reminder of our constant joy in the presence of G!d, even in the midst of our greatest sorrow.
thats coool :) and yeah I was learning about the Roman Empire and stuff , and about how some of the things said in the bible is a fact in history but the rest is just belief .. also that when Jesus came you guys believe that the Messiah has not yet come and Christians believed that Jesus was the Messiah ... this is all things I'm learning from the past .. correct me if I'm wrong LoL
The breaking of glass is symbolic of the destruction of the Temple in Jeruselum in 70 AD. By doing this, they are remembering this one devastation. As well, it is symbolic of all the hardships of the Jews throughout their history, and also that in marriages hardships will always come but they can make through it.
HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa sorry , I was learning this at school but the breaking of the glass I just see it on tv all the time so I was just curious & then I saw you was Jew so I just wanted to talk about it lmaoooo(:
Yes, I am. I've also been a student of world religions. And its spelled "Judaism" {:^) Yes, Christianity came partly out of Judaism and was also influenced by other religions that were found in the Roman Empire at that time.
