Is beating a child, Parental Abuse?

I refuse to plunge in to a deeper personal state during this question. I’d just like to ask what you all may think (opinions). Is beating the son, daughter, grand daughter, any person relative to your family, child abuse? Especially with belts, planks or/and electric cords…

Answer #1

There are other ways to discipline children, you don’t have to physically do anything.

Answer #2

I believe so.there are other options beside beating your kids.

Answer #3

There is a common sense discipline line - if it is crossed, yes - can apply child to parent, especially these days also.

Answer #4

yes I do think its abuse!!! unless you r trying to correct the child for WRONG behavior then I think 2 pats on the butt would teach them not to do it again but striking the child with hand , belt, ect. when it has done nothing wrong and if you r doing it in an angry way then yes I do think its abuse!!

Answer #5

It depends, if you hit a child because he did wrong (and he KNEW that it was wrong when doing it) and afterwards explain to him why, then no, we used to get spanked as kids and it didn’t do any harm, however just hitting a child for silly, stupid things or mistakes is out of the question for me.

Also even though I don’t see it as abuse to me there are a lot of different ways of educating a child, I don’t really see why it would be necessary to hit a child.

Answer #6

No belts, no “pieces of wood”(?), and no corporal punishment. Although in Ark you can sign a permission slip to allow your child to be spanked in school. (Not sure if this is the whole state or not, but do know it is true for the Cove/Mena area). Pieces of wood?? Come on!

Answer #7

By law, you may spank your child on the bottom, 3 swats, can not leave redness or handprint, and HAS TO BE the hand. Anything else constitutes abuse, which I pretty much expected 30 years ago.
