If I have the charmed life, why do I have depression?

Okay, so everybody thinks I have the “perfect life.” I am my parents only child. My parents have a little bit more money than the average family around here, and I get all kinds of cool stuff every Christmas, Birthday, etc. I can afford to get all of my clothes at Abercrombie, Hollister, etc. I am in the honor society and will probably go to medical school, grow up, and have lots of money. And yes, I hang out with the “cool” crowd. I should be perfectly happy, right? Wrong. I HATE my life! I have depression and anxiety attacks. I have cut my wrists before. and I go to see a therapist. (nobody knows), and lately I have begun to cry CONSTANTLY. usually multiple times a day. Why am I so sad all of the time when my life is a fairytale?

Answer #3

We’ve all heard that money doesn’t buy happiness - and it doesn’t. You’ve just proven that, who cares what kind of clothes you wear? Or what stuff you have if YOU’RE not happy. Being depressed is totally normal, especially for a teenager. Don’t take it out on your body, because it won’t help. It doesn’t make pain go away or really make you feel better. What you have to do is find what DOES make you happy.

Anytime you find yourself having a good time, write it down. Keep a notebook with you if it helps. Find the little things in life you enjoy and surround yourself with them. Count your blessings.

The truth is your life isn’t a fairytale. Don’t compare yourself with others either. Be happy with who you are. If you want to go to medical school then go, but if you don’t DON’T.

And if you need to cry, then cry, let it out. Crying can be good for you. God bless.

Answer #4

Having things and money is not the answer to being happy, it has nothing to do with it. It sounds like the problem it being worried about how other people think about you, how you look and who you are. That in itself causes anxiety, worrying about if other people are looking at you and you wonder if you look okay. What other people think about you is not important, and don’t worry about it, It’s what you think that is important to YOU. Other people opinions will alway be different from yours and you will never be able to please everybody. Your trying to be like everybody else, you need to feel comfortable being yourself. And don’t worry about what everybody else is doing. Focus on yourself only

Answer #5

Depression is an illness. It’s like saying if I have everything why do I get sick… There’s no clear cut answer to why some people get depression and others dont… Chemical imbalances, poor coping skills, whatever the problem is, it isnt your fault… Dont compare yourself to other people. Someone will always have it worse than you. Doesnt make it any less painful or any less real. Try and be honest with your therapist. They wont lock you up just because you’ve cut yourself in the past or you cut yourself today. But it might help them figure out how to help you. And if it isnt working out, find another therapist till it does help. It can get better, just keep reminding yourself of that…

Answer #6

Money isnt everything. Maybe you want to save up some of it instead seeing as you can afford stuff? Because if you end up like me with no job and strugle to get one for various reasons, I can tell you it would be NICE to have $20, no joke. So save whilst your material life is good. Cant do any harm.

Go and see a doctor tell him you think you have depression. It could very well be it, and it does affest a lot of people so see a doctor, you wont regret it.

Answer #7

maybe superficial things arnt really that important to you perhaps your looking for something more meaningful whatever it is you can figure it out maybe you feel like your parents dont pay much attention to you or your single and want a relationship or you dont know what to do with your life …try taking up some new hobbies and finding out what you love doing do what you love or talk to your therapist more about why you feel this way …try to find out what your missing in your life and work towards getting it

Answer #8

Well…let me tell you somthing

Money doesnt buy happiness… and your a perfect example

unfortunatly, you can have all the things money can buy, but still be unhappy!

maybe you have a lot of stress that has built up… going to the gym and doing somthing like weights or running can REALLY help… so try it for 3-4weeks and see what happens

also, right your thoughts down on bits of paper…good thoughs on one bit and bad on the other, then through the bad ones away…this helps with the way your mind thinks.. so try that.
