I want and need a therapist but she wont listen, what to do?

Ok so, I want and need a therapist and my mom isn’t doing anything about it. I’ve told her that I want and need a therapist but she wont listen. She thinks Im joking about it. ANd I’m being as serious as a heart attack!!!! What can I do to convince her that I need to talk to someone. Im depressed and she can’t even see that, what do I do?

Parents don’t want to realise that their children have problems in life so thus they don’t want them to see anyone about it to know “for sure” there is a problem. I was in this situation myself at your age, i had major ADD, had major problems in school, but my mom didn’t want them to diagnose me with this because they knew they would… she just got pissed and told me i wasn’t trying… I would suggest seeing a counselor at school and tell them you need to talk to a therapist, and that your mom is in denial and she won’t help you. The school counselor will help you trust me… if they don’t go to the principal bro… its best to get help now then let it escalate into something bigger down the road… I know first hand… you’ll start acting out and getting into trouble and trust me you don’t want that… I could barely get into the military… i need a waiver because of my “minor” record… which really was pretty minor…

Its good that you can stick up for yourself and not deny you have issues with life… that’s cool bro… take it easy.

I advise you to go see a school counselor, which is great, because the ‘rents don’t even have to know about it. But if you feel like that isn’t enough, instead of just walking up to your mom and being like “ I’m depressed, I need a therapist”, try explaining your situation to her and telling her why you’re depressed and feel the way you do. This will show her that you’re not kidding. If she STILL won’t take you seriously, it’s time to take matters into your own hands. KIDS HELP PHONE is great and I’m not sure, but you’re probably old enough to go to your doctor and arrange therapy without your moms permission. Good luck!
