How to use outline in Microsoft word 2007-8?

I’m wondering, how does the outline feature work in Microsoft word 2007-8 work? I need some help since I’m frustrated and lost. This is for speech and, we need to make a rough draft. I’m not good with Microsoft Office 2007 all that well. I’m learning though. So, I would appreciate some instructions. Thanks.

Hi goodgirl124,

Thats a very useful question you asked. In fact its one of the important utilities provided in the word processor which is most often use ..

The outline feature helps you to focus on the main idea of the project (or document) you are working on rather than working on the details from the start. After you open an empty document, click on view tab and select the outline view from the menu. Then you have a set of heading to be put in different levels for the headings (you can choose from the drop down menus) and once you are done click on the view tab again and choose print layout to view your headings come out in an order. This will help you focus and organize your thoughts first before you work on the details (outline first)…Alternately this can be used to view the document heading structure (which headings are in which level and so on)… hope this helps.

Start with the “I” (eg, capital i) for the first sentence. Then hit “enter” and you’ll get II at the start of the second sentence. If you hit “tab” it’ll indent and give you an “a.” at the start of the line.

You want to include main points on the I, II, III, IV, and V lines.

Sub bullets or main ideas within those concepts on the a,b,c,d, etc, lines.

Then indented below those will be i, ii, iii, iv, etc - lowercase versions of those roman numerals. Those are for supporting facts, statistics, etc, within those ideas.
