How to stop hurting myself

ok, so like I am what some refer to as a self mutilator, and I wasnt doing it for a while, then I started to get really depressed, so I just started up again, and I really want to stop, but the problem is is it makes me happy, dunno why it just does. How do I stop before it gets out of hand?

Right well this is a serious form of self harming. And it is good that you want to stop. It may make you happy because you have released your fury and frustration on yourself so the only one damaged is you, you haven’t hurt someone else. Or so you think. When people know what is going on with you their feelings sink because they worry about you. I should know, I went through the same thing.

So, you want to stop.

First of all, you need to think about in the long term.

  1. Scars on your arms. When you start a job or meet new people they are bound to ask sooner or later where did the scars come from. Plus there is no use hiding them up with long sleeves and such
  2. You can get some nasty infections from doing this. You may think it will clear up, but if you are not careful you could get HIV etc which is a long term illness which cannot be cured.

Tips on stopping:

  1. Use an old mattress or pillow to beat. Whenever you get angry or start to boil up, go beat something soft, as hard as you can. You can cry while you do it, let the tension out. This could also lead to a hobby - boxing, kickboxing, karate. You can make new friends, get fit and let your anger out.
  2. Go somewhere quiet - your room perhaps and listen to some chill out music. May I recommend “Embrace” it has a mixture of rock, mellow, chill, hardcore and r’n’b music.
  3. Go talk to someone on the phone or computer. They may be able to talk you out of it. Or even better go out for a walk.

Hope this helps. It helped me

the first thing to do even though it will be very hard is to go see a counselor, they know what to do. Trust me it will really help, you have to find the problem that is making you want to cut or what you do and you have to find a solution on how to stop, and when you do want to si, you could go on a bike ride, call a friend, hang out with people so you cant to it, just something to take your mind off of it.
