How long do I have to go to school to become a psychologist?

I really want to be a psychologist but I dont want tto school? What courses should I take? How much do they make on average? Will my income be good? Is there a way I can reduce college time? ex, shorting my four year degree to a two year? Thanks in advice and please give me any advice you can.

It takes a long time, you have to do undergrad courses get your bachelors masters phd and sometimes your doctorat

work experience is also valuable.

if you want too go to school 3 semesters a year you could shorten the length but definitely not the workload

Answer #2

4 years for Bacheleors and then 2 years for Masters minimum. If you pile on a heavy load you can do it a little faster maybe cut a semester/quarter off the 6 years.

Longer to get your Ph.D which is needed to make the most money as it wil be hard to get a job withjust a masters in this field.

45k-80k yearly is average.

Years of schooling: Bachelors (4 years), Doctorate: clinical/counseling/doctor of psychology (5 years), Internship (1 year), Licensing (1-2 years)

Courses: In high school, it does not matter, just get into a good undergraduate program In college: major in psychology (your school will give you a list of classes). They will not require the research class but I would advise anyone who wants to get the Phd to take this class.

Clinical/counseling/school psychologists: Median wages (2008) $64,140 annual Industrial/Organizational psychologists: Median wages (2008) $77,010 annual http://online.onetcenter.org/

To get accepted into a doctoral program you need a Bachelors. You can get a bachelors in 3 years if you dont take summers off. This is not something you can do without a lot of schooling. If you’re not interested in school, find another profession.

As far as I know there is no way that you can shorten the time that you have to study (however we don’t live in the same country, so maybe phone your university to find out for sure)

Also it’s difficult to get a proper job as a psychologist, in my experience, my one friend had many distinctions and she couldn’t get into honors and hasn’t gotten a proper job yet, however that would also depend from country to country. They usually look for people with experience (I.e. 4-6 years working experience) before they take you.

Furthermore I’m not sure about the salary, but there is always the option to start your own business and you can make money that way.

Answer #5

well for starters you should definitenly take some science courses with some math courses. If you want big cash, you will have to have a PHD which will take a miniumum of 6 years. If you really want the job, you can take the six years. I am 18 years old right now. I am planning to major in the psychology field also. A little advice, you cannot shorten it into two years.
