How? Is it legal for pe teachers to fail a student...?

Real question: Is it legal for p.e. teachers to fail a student who is inable to participate.

I have an authorized doctor’s note that releases me from physical activity. I just recieved my grades and my grade for p.e. went down to a C-

At the beginning of this month I had a B+… Like I said I am inable to participate in p.e. so is it legal for a teacher to bring my grade down?

umm well I don’t know. I guess I depends on how the PE teacher grades. The way mine did was if you showed up, participated in everything, and met the minimum times for runs and so forth you got a C- to a C+, basically you more or less meet the minimums that were set. If you showed improvement for the semester, or where very obviously trying to improve he would bump you up to the B area. Had to really bust your butt and poor everything you had into it to hit the A area.

Try talking to the teacher and asking them why your grade dropped. If that doesn’t get you anywhere, try talking to an administrator.

And as I see it they aren’t failing you. Does he having you do some sort of alternate activity? Way it worked for me, if you couldn’t run and do that stuff you had to spend the class walking, at whatever pace your health issues would allow. If you couldn’t do that due to broken leg or something, he would give you some sort of writing assignment related to physical eduction.

If you don’t mind me asking what exactly is causing it so you can’t participate in PE at all?

I would ask, if you didn’t participate in the class, why would you get a B. C- is pretty good for doing nothing, isn’t it?

Answer #3

What is it with teens and legality? Do you honestly think the legal system has nothing better to do than to hear you complain about your grades? Yes it is legal for a teacher to do anything they want with your grades (unless it is because of discrimination, like race, ethnicity, gender etc). You can appeal to the head of the department.

Answer #4

lol yah I agree with ty. go talk to head of the dept or an administrator of some sort. Tell them everything that happened. Sounds like BS if he gave you an alternate project to work on then said, oh yah sry your still scewed :P.

Answer #5

I have arthritis in one of my knees and my doctor advised me not to participate in pe until I got physical therapy for it. The teacher had me doing a project for him but now he’s saying he can’t grade me in the class now like all of a sudden out of nowhere. SO the work I did for him wasn’t even graded.
