How do you make a craft bible cover?

Answer #1

Well, I hope I understood what you mean right, so here it is in 12 steps ^.^

Step 1 Lay the leather out flat, with the wrong side up. Open your Bible and place it on the leather, keeping it open.

Step 2 Trace around the outside edges of your Bible, adding about 1/2-inch all the way around. Make sure to mark on the top and bottom of both sides of the binding. Set the Bible aside for a moment.

Step 3 Use the rotary cutter to cut around the lines you’ve just traced. Set the main piece aside.

Step 4 Measure the thickness of your Bible, and add 2 inches. Cut a small strip of leather about 1 1/2-inches wide, with the length being the thickness of your Bible plus 2 inches. For example, if my Bible is 2 inches thick, I will have a strip of leather that is 1 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches long.

Step 5 Take the main leather piece and find the places where you marked the edges of the binding. Using the rotary cutter, make straight 1/2-inch cuts at those marks, on the top and the bottom.

Step 6 Fold down the little flaps between the two cuts, and glue them securely.

Step 7 Now, fold one of the top edges down about 1/2 inch and fold one of the sides 1/2 inch so that they overlap at the corner. Using the leather needle and some embroidery thread, sew the overlap together. Be sure to sew only through the folded leather and not through the leather behind.

Step 8 Repeat Step 7 for the three remaining corners.

Step 9 Find the center of the right-hand side fold. Sew one end of the leather strip you cut earlier to the folded leather, being careful to sew it only to the fold, and not the leather beneath. If desired, you can glue it to the fold, but it won’t be as sturdy.

Step 10 Now, fold the entire piece in half like you are closing a book. Fold the leather strip you just sewed onto the right-hand side over onto the left-hand side, so that it overlaps about 1 inch. Mark this spot.

Step 11 Sew your button onto the spot you’ve just marked, and create a corresponding button hole on the strip of leather. If desired, add any embellishments now.

Step 12 Insert the covers of your Bible into the leather cover by sliding them into the folds you made. Pull the leather strip over the Bible and button it to keep the book closed.

I hope I helped;)

Alex.
