How does the bible say that we can know that we are saved?
amblessed, you're making the mistake a lot of Christians make and taking that verse out of context. The book of John was written as a reaction to disappointment among many early Christians over Jesus' failure to return as promised. In the other Gospels, we get Jesus as the "people's messiah", a man of the Jews and for the Jews who explains how people can receive the Kingdom of God. But in John, we get a divine Jesus who is the path to the Kingdom of God. John draws heavily on Greek concepts because the book was written for an educated Greek audience. It's the first book that talks about the concept of being "born again" or "born from above". As the writer of John saw it, being "born again" did not mean repenting of sin and accepting the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ as payment for that sin, as many modern Christians believe. It involved a spiritual journey, seeking greater awareness of the divine. This results in a transformation that would allow a person to attain everlasting life.
If any book in the Bible plainly demonstrates Christianity's pagan influence, John is it.
*["How can we know that we are saved?"]
***We can know that we are saved by the authority of the Word of God: "He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself; he that believeth NOT God hath made him a LIAR; because he believeth NOT the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us ETERNAL LIFE, and this LIFE is IN his SON. He that HATH the Son HATH LIFE; and he that HATH NOT the Son of God HATH NOT life.. These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the NAME of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that ye HAVE eternal life, and that ye may BELIEVE on the NAME of the Son of God" [2 John 5:10-13].
1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren.
Vs. 7 Dear Children, do not let anyone lead you astray, He who does what is right is righteious, just as he is righteous. vs. 9 No one who is born of God, will continue to sin, because Gods seed remains in him, and he cannot go on sinning.
vs. 23 and this is his commandment, to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit that he gave us.
if you believe in god don't have to go to church or nothin like that but if believe somewhere he exists then anytime something bad like a car accident happens god will be at your side making sure you don't die or real bad injury happens and when you do something bad god is the first to forgive u he loves everyone so just believe and you wil be saved :)
Very simple, you know that you are saved when you have asked Jesus to come into your heart, confesed all your sins and asked Jesus to forgive you for all you wrong doings. It is as simple as that. All Jesus wants you to do is open up your heart and let Him cleanse you of all your worries and trials. He is there even if you don't ask Him to be.
"then anytime something bad like a car accident happens god will be at your side making sure you don't die or real bad injury happens "
Really? I'm pretty sure a lot of christians die in car accidents. In fact, I'm even fairly confident that christians don't die at a lower rate than anyone else.
God says it, I believe it, and that settles it - John 3 : 16 "whosoever believeth in Him (Jesus) shall (means mandatory) not perish but have everlasting life", Amen !!
silverwings, do you ever ask a question to which you don't already have an answer in mind that you have decided is right?
arachinid... I am sorry you do not like the way I do things.
If we believe in God, than we know we are saved.
