could I be in a cult of some sort and dont know it?

so ,I was researching dangerous cults and found that the united pentecostal church is somewhat of a cult and I often go to a pentecostal church, along with most of my friends and one of my friends dads is even the pastor. I know that most cult members dont realize they’re in one.

The church doesnt force you to come to sermons or anything but they do try to guilt trip you into it. They also say that people need to start putting more effort in and giving more to god, including saying that it isnt giving it your all if your spending lots of money on yourself, and dont put much into the offering jar. But they’re not mean or anything they’re all super nice people and although they encourage you to save people they dont demand you like go around to houses and for example in bible study we were discussing evolution and what proves it wrong, BUT also discussing the possibility that it could be right and what evidence suggests god out of it.

sorry if I didnt make myself clearer I suck at wording stuff I just hope you get what I mean.

I think the mere fact that you can question whether or not you’re in a cult proves that they don’t have cult-like influence on you. If you were truly completely reserved in this “cult” you wouldn’t even mentioning that you might be being brainwashed or wrongly influenced.

And don’t worry about it. Nearly every religion involves guilt. If they can make you feel guilty for doing something “bad”, you avoid doing the “bad” thing. It’s called cognitive association. There are dozens of studies on it, and in my opinion, it’s the only way any type of church can keep control over its members.

Salvation is free and is a free will. A pastor’s only job is to teach the word of God! not try to make you do anything. When certain scriptures are picked out of the Bible to get you to do what they want you to do, then yes, they are trying to control you. Steps for Directions: If you believe in Jesus Christ (St. John 3:16) Study the word of God for yourself (Acts 2:38) Trust and depend on Jesus (St. John 13:34) & (St. John 14:26) & (1John 2:27) He will direct your path!! As He is in me.

yes a lot of people dont think the cult there in is wrong, usually because there used to it, and havent seen how other people live especially with a lot of cults who force the people and there children, ect to stay with the cult as for your church that collection plate money doesnt go to god how can it? though I dont beleive in any god, your god doesnt come down every sunday and collect that money, your god doesnt need money that money goes to either the church (though this is much LESS often than people think) but mostly it gets given to the pastors/priests, ect higher leaders of the place and they can spend it on whatever they want, usually things like nicer cars and houses the point is god doesnt need money and god doesnt require you to give money to a church to be saved beleiving in whatevere god you beleive in is enough you dont have to give your money to the church leaders so they can live in a nice house and have a nice car that wont make a difference as to wether you get “‘saved”‘ or not

All of Christianity is a cult. So is Islam, and so is Buddhism. When you’re in a cult, it’s hard to tell that you’re in it. But outsiders can see it:

Key signs of a cult:

  • you’re attention is devoted to a human being
  • you believe this person is/was supernatural and very special
  • you engage in activities designed to reinforce and spread such beliefs
  • you find it proper to indoctrinate children in these ideas
  • extreme forms of punishment are expected for apostasy
  • extreme forms of reward are offered for mere belief
