How can I make this heartworm treatment go smoothly?

My 6 year old Pomeranian was recently diagnosed with heartworms. She starts her heartworm treatment Monday morning. I’m really nervous about her going through this treatment, she is my sweet little baby. I know she needs to be kept calm, but with all her energy that is going to be difficult. Any tips on how to help make her comfortable and take care of her when she comes home Tuesday would be greatly appreciated.

You MUST keep her quiet…so a cage is necessary…walks must all be taken on a leash. When my dog has had to stay down and quiet for any extended of time…I talk to him about it (more to keep me in tune with the fact that activity can make everything 100 times worse).

Wire crates are better for keeping them down for extended periods , because a dog can see out at all angles, and doesn’t feel so lonely or confined.

Follow ALL directions given you by the Vet.

Just relax and stay calm your self. Don’t stress over any little thing or treat her like she is hurt. Dogs pick up on these kind of things and can actaully stress her out. If she tries getting hyper just stay calm, worring about her can make it worse. If shes trying to play to rough jut pick her up and pet her instead. Also, Don’t worry your little baby will be ok.
