How can I make it in life with so many problems?

I don’t see how ill make it in college and beyond that. With me having so many problems. I really don’t want to be a 25 year old man living with his mother.some girl last night told I couldn’t make it no where cause of the way I talk (< speech problem ). I kinda believe her. Like say I move out of my state to go to a college.ill be alone with no helps. So how would I make doctor appointment ect. When peoples cant understand me.I find it very annoying when someone ask me to repeat myself like 20 times.I don’t even think ill be able to get a wife.. Kinda like how martin luther king jr. Said “”faith is taking the first step, even when you don’t see the whole staircase””. I took the first of having faith. But then what are the next steps.I would really like to stand on my own when I get older.but I dont think I can. Advice please? This is really bugging me. Ill be out of highschool in like 2 years. I want to have a plan in my pocket. Before then.my mom alway say I cant get a job.cause as they as “”am handicap””. Which isn’t true. Only thing handicap about me is my speech ability. Everything else work fine :d. So yea I need a lot of advice please sorry if this long

Answer #1

if you dont think the doctor will understand you or the lady at the reception either write down what you have to say write down that youd like to book an appointment and write down all the questions you have to ask the doctor so he can see them and understand them

Answer #2

I don’t know what type of speech problems you have, but try taking speech classes. My sister had speech problems and took classes for a few years and they helped a lot. You can’t tell she ever had a speech problem. They are hard at first because you have to put your pride aside and get the help you need.

Answer #3

I mean I took all the speech classes I can. so now I just got to try hard to talk to other peoples. it really hard to say my last name right -.- so ill hate making doctor appointment I know it

Answer #4

I mean that make me feel really really dumb. maybe if I got a state ID. that would help to.but I don’t know. if I should really try to go out on my own

by the way. do you know any jobs at the age of 16. that would be likely to hire me?

Answer #5

to get a doctors appointment you just need to walk in, wait in the line and then ask for one if there not busy you could have one the same day you go in there are also plenty of jobs that dont require talking personally to people, or talking at all as long as you can understand other people fine, you should be fine

we all have struggles in life that we have to overcome.. all I can say is believe in your self.. society today is acutally really opened to impared people and ofcoarse you arent even close to being one! all that is wrong is your speech and im sure over time it will get better! your future is what you make out of it ! all you have to do is do great in school, try your best, and be positive.. dont worry somehow things will work out for the best.. you could try going to speech classes, im sure your school has a program for that or even out side of school.. if not practice, practice, practice!! and fight the battle when it comes, im sure you will find a wife and move out of your moms basement.. what do you think deaf people do? we all have problems but we have to work around them;)

Answer #7

You’re welcome. It’s not impossible, suck it up. =)

Answer #8

Dude, we all have problems. You can’t keep using that as an excuse not to get out there and do something about. Nothing you will ever want in life will be easy to get, nothing. You’re going to have to do something to get it. Don’t tell yourself, oh, well my childhood blows so people should feel bad and I shouldn’t have to do anything because of all the sh!t I’ve had to deal with. Everybody has gone through something, don’t use it as a reason to not do anything for yourself. You don’t want to live with your parents when you’re 30? Get out there, get a job, save up, and get out of the house when you feel ready. You can’t get something for nothing. It doesn’t work that way. Sorry, I feel in a preacher-ish mood right now. Aha. I just got back from the movies. I saw The Book Of Eli. Ahahaha. =P

Answer #9

well it helped me :) thank preacher

but still it seem impossible

Answer #10

People with FAR more involved disabilities get jobs. I work with disabled people and they go to school, go to work, etc.

You have to get over yourself and just get out and do whatever it is you want to do. You want to be independent but you want someone there to take care of you. If its just a speech problem then you have NO excuse for not getting out and living a normal life.

Many people in this world have “issues”. If you WANT to have a happy, successful, independent life…you will. Its totally up to you. No one else. No one else can stop you. If you need help then ASK for it. But otherwise, get out there, be a man, and step to it.

I was born with a huge birthmark on my face and had to have 13 plastic surgeries and skin grafts to have it removed. They all fell between the ages of 3 and 10. The last two operations almost killed me and after that I refuse to have anymore. It left me with a very large and noticable scar on my face. It hasnt stopped me yet!

I was a department manager at 19 and a floral designer. I got married at 21. I had a baby at 23. I got divorced at 31. (BEST THING EVER! LOL!) I have had 3 jobs. One I have been at for 17 years. Another I quit from. And the one currently have…I am the house supervisor for a group home for disabled men. I went to highschool and did well but did not go to college because I dont enjoy school. I am going to be moving soon and getting my first place on my own…for me and my son. Last year I bought my first car, on my own.

If you want it bad enough…you will find a way to do it.
