How can I get a raspy voice

For me it’s been a 4 year long attempt, and it’s still much in the works. Chain Smoking helps, but it mainly rasps up only your low tones. I smoke a pack/pack a half a day. Moved down from 3 packs a day, and switched to cigars for a few months. and still my voice is semi-clean. but what I found over the years is by a regimen of screaming into a pillow… for hours… it’s started to rasp my upper range as well.

The main thing you gotta keep in mind is the rasp kinda comes with the lifestyle of just not caring for your throat. I’d gone through days where I’d have nothing but coffee and whiskey to drink. with cigars and pop tarts for food (and not by choice). It takes years of careful neglect and pain. but I’d still go for the chick with the rasp anyday. non-masochists beware, you may not like what you get

scream into a pillow, clear your throat a lot. cough, hard liquor, anything you can think of to damage your chords. and from there you better hope your voice breaks. 4 and a half years and mine still hasn’t fully gone.
