How can I ask him out without ruining our friendship?

Ok so me and my guy best friend and were both 17. We dated when we were 14. We dated for 3 months. I was too clingy thats why we broke up. So now were like super best friends and like super close and everything. Like were always giggling laughin at each other joking around. Always together. People think were dating. We act just like a couple but we dont kiss and stuff. Were like so close to each other like when were sittin down we just stare at each other, whispering, touching. We do like each other. All the quizzes I’ve taken says like were so in love and stuff. So I really like him and I totally think he likes me why else does he shows the signs he show? Hes kinda shy and we people ask are we datin he answers really fast lol its kinda funny. Anywhoo to make a long story short I wanna ask him to the prom. He went with this girl last year and the year before. He said he doesnt wanna go. How can I convince him to go with me without it soundin like a date? HELP!

Well, if he thought you were too clingy before, then chasing him hard this time will scare him off. You could suggest that you two go as friends, but if he doesn’t seem keen, don’t push it. What I suggest is backing away from him, hanging with new people, doing other things… if he sees you getting on with life without him, that will be the trigger to make him realize you aren’t going to just hang around like his sidekick forever. You can still be friends, but don’t make him the center of your world. He will either own up and try and have a relationship with you, or he wont. Either way, you have your answer.
