How to get over my best friend without ruining our friendship?

I’ve liked my guy friend for years. There was a point where he said he felt the same way and we had a drunken kiss. We were meant to get together but that never happened cause he thought it’d ruin our friendship or the relationship would be awkward. He has been quite harsh and distant with me since. Though now he seems completely over it; seems to like other people. He hangs out in same group as me but rarely talks to me anymore. It happened months ago yet I’m still really into him. I’ve been reading up and most advise to cut of contact but I can’t do that as it’s not fair on our mutal friends. How do I get over him without ruining our friendship?
