Hit a brick wall with weightloss!

Hey guys Over the past half a year by cutting down on the junk I’ve eaten I’ve managed to lose just over two stone but in the past 4-5 weeks the weight loss seems to have stopped. I think I just about get the recommended daily calorie intake for my lifestyle and I dont eat unhealthy with a diet mainly consisting of vegetables and fruit/ lean meat e.t.c… any advice please? my goal is to lose another half a stone. I’ve tried many things such as drinking more water, eating even less and eating more ^.^ but no results. Could it be that diet alone wont help me loose weight any further and I need to take up a sport such as running ( I already go to the gym+ cycle at the weekend)? Thanks. Also could skipping lunch and having a fairly large/healthy breakfast be the problem?

Yes, you answered your own question. You need to challenge your body more.

At the gym, either add more weights, or use the same amount of weights and do your routine until your muscles can take it no more.

And as for cardio, like the weights, either do it for a longer period, or you can cycle/run for the same period, but run faster or sprint in intervals.

Regarding your food intake, I would rather eat 6 small meals a day (be careful with the portions) so that the food intake is spread out throughout the day and to keep the insulin levels up (I.e. you don’t get hungry) and that your metabolism will burn through it throughout the day. You can plan which meals go in what time period, for example, you can eat more carbohydrates and proteins before you work out, instead of after when you don’t really need it to keep your body going.

How to LOSE weight?

First, determine from the information below, what your weight should be. Then set yourself goals of a week, 2 weeks, a month, 3 months, 6 months and a year. As you see yourself meeting your goals it becomes easier. Remember, you didn’t gain your weight overnight so don’t expect to lose if overnight. Plus, weight lost slowly is more likely to stay off than weight lost in a hurry.

BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measurement of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 years.

“How can I Lose 1 pound of body weight per week?”

One pound of body fat is equal to about 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of weight per week, you need to eat 500 calories/day LESS than you burn.

But it’s not a good idea to lose weight simply by cutting calories. As well as decreasing calories you should increase your daily physical exercise. This helps to burn calories and build more lean tissue which in turn burns more calories.

“What should a minimum calorie intake be?”

As a guide to minimum calorie intake, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that calorie levels never drop below 1200 calories per day for women or 1800 calories per day for men. Even these calorie levels are quite low.

Another thing that helps to lose weight is to always eat a good breakfast. That helps to jump start your metabolism which helps start burning calories. Also, try to drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water every day. One before every meal (except breakfast) and before all snacks. That helps curb your appetite which helps reduce caloric intake.
