How do you help others get healthy?

How do you motivate someone you care about to adopt a healthier lifestyle? I know they need to make their own choices…but, when you love someone, it is very difficult to watch themselves make really unhealthy choices. Any good motivational tips?

It all depends on what they are doing. The best friend to have is one that will stand by you and support you,no matter what. I had a friend once,And she was cutting herself.I never thiught it would end,she was reading satanist books, talking about the devil, and even doing witchcaft.I backed away, didnt hang out as much wiht her,but i was still there for her when she needed to talk.ABour 2 months agoo, she straightened out,and she started to realize how stupid it all was.She actually Thanked me for trying to help her,and shes all set now.

Most likely,Your friend will come around, and realize whatever she is doing is stupid, and pointless. She;ll grow up.

And if not,or if during this phase, she is so out of control that you are seriously worried about her life, tell her parents,or whoever watches over her. They should know what goes on with their children anyways.

You can’t fix someone else; they have to want to change.

All you can do is be loving and supportive. Celebrate any improvement no matter how small.

The best motivation for many many things is envy. If you are trained and gorgeous, sooner or later they will try to exercise too

Dear zstaciez, There are plenty of ways to help others. First most the best way is to be a good role model for them. By developing a healthy lifestyle yourself. Books, pamphlets, typed info left in an obvious place. Speak with those around them…such as parents, boyfriend and other friends. If all these people model a good lifestyle chances are it will rub off. If they are young and into drugs & drinking, speak with a trusted adult about getting them rehab. If they have problems with diet then take them to see a dietician and a physician. It’s not easy to watch someone you love in trouble so be active and take all the steps you can to help them…we all need more friends like you. Sue…good luck
