Why did Rochester keep his wife?
Why did Rochester keep his wife instead of sending her to a hospital or divorcing her and then he could keep her hidden and THEN marry Jane. I know divorce wasn’t seen as a good thing back then but he had a legitimate reason she was insane!
Because Rochester does whatever Rochester wants to do, and don’t dare question him. Ever. Capische sunshine?
your abs. rite I thought the same thing when I read the book and it was discussed in class so..he couldnt of married jane because he and his wife never had an anullment or divorce plus people didnt really divorce back thenand in some small way rochester still loved his wife because he did not send her to an aslylum because back then those types of places were extremely messed up and she probably would have died there
Because, It’d defeat the purpose of the story !
