Human's have acidic skin, while dog's have neutral pH to their skin. Human shampoos are slightly acidic, which means they will burn and irritate dog skin. Ever get lemon juice in a cut? Think of it like that. Even the "gentle" tearless baby shampoos are still formulated for acidic-skinned babies, so it's still a no. You MUST use shampoo for dogs. You don't have to buy the high-end naturalistic dog shampoos, you can get a bottle at Petsmart for $8 or so and it'll work just fine.
yeah, I heard of that shampoo. I constently use name brands for my hair. Seems best for me because cheap stuff sucks on my hair. I have a new puppy, and I usually use baby wash on my other dogs - ran out of baby wash as soon as I got a new puppy, and I didnt want to go anywhere today. So wondered if I could use Bed Head Color shampoo.
No. You cannot. Use pet products. And yeah, I wash my cat with baby shampoo, the cat shampoos I bought just irritated her skin. I have no idea how it works on dogs though, I just use dog shampoo for the dogs.
Bed head actually makes a line of pet products called "Pet Head". I'd go with that instead of the color shampoo.
No, the ph is all wrong....use dog shampoo or even baby shampoo....but leave the specialty shampoos to humans.
Well my vet said it's ok to bathe my dachshund in baby tearless shampoo. And Dawn Dishwashing Soap.
Ah, I see. You should probably hold off on bathing him until you can get some pet shampoo.
stop being cheap. If you can afford salon shampoo, buy your dog, DOG shampoo.
yep - thanks for the advice. : - )
