How do I keep my hands warm without wearing gloves?

Answer #1

Why wont you wear gloves? They are made so many different ways and in so many cool styles now a days you can find some that you actually like. I personally like the ones with the tips of the fingers cut off because it keeps your hands warm but you can still function with them on. If you absolutely refuse to wear them for whatever reason your only other options are wearing a jacket or hoodie with pockets and keeping your hands in the pockets, or buying the heating packs that are designed to be put in shoes or on you to keep you warm. They are usually found in the hunting section of stores and can be heated up just by rubbing them and creating friction.

(a) Rub your hands together briskly - friction warms them; (b) Hold each hand in turn in a loose fist shape and blow warm air out from your mouth through the gap between palm and fingers; (c) Jump up and down; do a tittle jogging on the spot. swing your arms around; ….. the light exercise increaser the heart rate and blood flow increasing the flow of warm blood into the cooler extremities (arms & hands; legs & feet) (d) Drink warm drinks from a large ceramic (not metal- too hot, or insulated - too cool) mug - the drink increases core and blood temperature thus warming the hands indirectly via the cardiovascular system, and directly from the warm mug. (e) eat plenty of complex carbohydrates - these are digested slowly and maintain a steady flow of glycogen via the bloodstream to the soft tissues of the body (including the hands) so that those tissues can continue to generate body heat efficiently. I recommend a good serving of porridge at breakfast, pasta with lunch, and rice or baked potato for evening meal. (f) generally keep active by exercising regularly to maintain a high metabolic rate. (g) if seated (e.g. at a computer in an unheated room) for prolonged periods, a hot water bottle placed between the thighs will warm the blood flowing in the femoral arteries very efficiently allowing warmer blood to circulate and warm the extremities. The hands can also be warmed directly on the hot water bottle. (h) in addition to warming the hands in the armpits (mentioned here by others the groin area works similarly very efficiently - put your hands down inside your trousers (or similar). (i) protect from wind chill if hands are exposed to rapidly moving air. (j) use vaseline or grease etc. to protect ungloved hands that need to be immersed in cold water.
