What: do you think the Three Gorges Dam was a good idea?
Why or why not? trying to finish homework, but im stuck on this question. please help!!
From what I understand that dam has displaced more than a million people in addition increasing the risk of landslides in the area but on the plus side is the largest hydroelectric power station in the world. I don’t know enough to know whether this is a good idea or a bad one. On the plus side it does help control the flooding which would otherwise have effected millions of people. Negatively it did contribute to the extinction of the Yangtze river dolphin. Personally I’m not too thrilled with the environmental impact of the project.
The Chinese Communist Party certainly made it sound like a good idea when they proposed it. Now, even the government realizes the massive ecological devastation and disruption of local people and economic activity has outweighted any benefits the dam may have brought.
