Is America going into a new depression?
The original Great Depression had a lot of causes, not just the stockmarket crash and bank failures. It was largely the reaction to those things by governments and consumers that caused the world's economies to spiral into misery. Some of those reactions are not being repeated in this financial crisis, at least not yet. So I think it's still too early to say.
What ever you call it, we are headed for really rough times ahead. Technically a depression cannot be measured based on just 1 or 2 quarters. For it to be considered a depression the economy most show major contractions in multiple facets of the economy over an extended period of time. If it isn't a depression, it will be a very deep recession.

We're not there yet, but if things continue the way they are it won't be long and we may just end up standing in bread lines and do rationing. Not yet, but it's really scary that it absolutely COULD happen in this decade.
"apparently you guys don't know what a depression is."

I believe we are on the edge of a major financial disaster. And we are in danger of another "great depression"
