I agree- the website is a great source for information. I am a first year student at FIDM and I considered FIT in New York City also. So far, I have been very pleased with my experience here at FIDM.I attend the Downtown LA location, which your daughter would go to in her second year. The campus in Orange County is amazing!!! It is absolutely stunning, clean, and new- as it is shown online. Some of my friends attended the campus in Orange County and decided to come to the Downtown LA location after only a couple of quarters. There seems to be a lot more happening in Downtown LA for jobs and connections. However, the OC location is a great transition for students coming out of high school to start their gen ed classes. Has your daughter met with an academic advisor? When I was applying to FIDM I had a great academic advisor that walked me through the steps. I would suggest calling the school and requesting a course catalog and an academic advisor. Best of luck to you!

I have heard good things about FIT new york and I am sure you can get more information about them from FITNYC.edu but I really don’t know much about FIDM or FIT at all. When I lived in NY my aunt always spoke highly of FIT. Good luck with getting more information and I hope your daughter finds the right university for her. You might try talking to her advisor at school now.

If you’re still looking for info, you can find out a lot about FIDM at their website – FIDM.edu. I don’t know too much about FIT. But I knew I wanted to be in California because now there’s more happening here in fashion and the whole entertainment scene than New York, and that’s good for my career. I like FIDM’s program because I’ll be able to learn what I need to know in two years and start my career sooner. Did you watch Project Runway? I found out that five of the designers went to FIDM! Anyway, good luck with your choice – the main thing is to get more info and ask questions.

FIDM is a GREAT SCHOOL!! Two of my friends are going there right now. It’s fantastic.

Answer #9

That is not true at all about FIT actually.. You should probably get your facts straight before you go giving advice to this lady. THE TRUTH- FIT actually places OVER 90% of their graduates in the industry, with anyone from being top name designers, to independent workers, to even working for FIT. FIT does have a better reputation in the professional world compared to FIDM, that is a fact. Now if you like either school more, thats personal opinion. Every single one of FIT’s core teachers have professional experience and have worked in the industry they are teaching.

Its really just an east coast/ west coast rivalry. You have to decided where you will better fit in, East coast-FIT, or West coast-FIDM. Visit both schools and whereever you fit in best, go. Although FIT does have a better reputation in the professional Fashion world than FIDM, FIDM does offer great classes and is in a great location.
