Fear of needles :(

I have a MASSIVE fear of needles, and I have a very important blood test I need to have to make sure my liver and kidneys are OK. All I have to do is think of needles going into skin and I can physically not stop myself from crying and shaking :( I dont usualy cry often. It’s only really the injection needles I hate (not the suringe bit the actual needle) I dont mind peircing or sewing needles. I need to know all of the possibl ways to get over my fear please :) xx

Answer #1

Dont think about it. Just dont. You have to have blood drawn. Thats it. dont say needle or syringe. Stop yourself everytime you start thinking about it. Bring an interesting magazine to read while you wait and dont allow your mind to wander. when you go in there and she preps your arm, dont look. Look away! There will be a pinch. It will be short. Say to yourself, “ Its a quick pinch, quick pinch.” Think about all the times you hurt yourself. You fell off your bike and scraped your knees. Broke your arm. Stubbed your toe. Ran into a wall. Fell down the stairs. got a paper cut. This will hurt 1000 times less than that.

Its quick. it will be quick. In 5 minutes you will be done. And until the day comes DONT think about the thing youre not supposed to think about. you just have to do it. Its a pinch and youre done. Youve had worse pain. Dont fret.

Answer #2

Don’t look when they are doing it. AND, on your hand on the arm that they are going to do, take your thumb nail and dig it in to your index finger tip. It is hard for the mind to perceive to “pains” at the same time, so you lesson your ability to feel the needle prick.

like just recently I went to get a blood test and was terrified but when the the lady stuck the needle in my arm it was like a pinch. trust me its wont hurt. just be sure to sit still.

Answer #4

best way to get over it is to just go ahead and do it. try and keep your mind clear and remember that it wont harm you. I used to be terrified of needles too, and I’m a guy! Once I had my blood taken a few times I’m pretty much used to it, it feels like an annoying pinch, not too bad.

Answer #5

Close your eyes and don’t look. That usually works quit well. Also REMEMBER to tell the nurse/doctor that will be drawing the blood that you are scared. You don’t want to faint or puke on them without them having a warning.

Answer #6

Ever been scrathed by a cat? it’s exactly like that :) it doesn’t hurt believe me lols. when the doctor put’s it in make sure you dont tense where ever your having it because it will hurt more so just relax when it goe’s in x

Answer #7

I know it’s scary, but if you imagine something wasn’t okay with your live&kidneys, you’d proberly have to get a lot more injections, and it would be a lot more traumatic, just think possitivly. xxx

Answer #8

ahh take a needle to yourself?! or force yourself to watch when I goes in?! try possible asking a counselor to help you figure out why you are so scared of them, because deep down there is normally a reason.
