Why am I still fat if I'm a vegan?

Ok, so I’ve been vegan for almost six months. I’d like to lose some weight but I’m not really sure what to do. I walk about a mile a day, and an extra mile on wednesdays. I try avoiding junk/fried foods. I’m not perfect, but I try. I eat leafy things a lot. I love fruit. So what I don’t understand is why I’m not lighter!!!

What makes you think you’re fat? What’s your height and weight now?

Also, as hard as it sounds — not all fat people are fat because they eat too much and don’t do anything…

It doesn’t sound to me like you’re doing anything wrong — you’re probably doing more than other kids your age —

Go to this web page: www.flat-stomach-exercises.com/ideal-body-weight.html

Look up your height and you’ll see your “ideal” weight range — notice I said IDEAL. This is not a one-size-fits-all chart — it can not take into account your physical structure — your “bones” if you will…

It also doesnt take into account your age — Likely, you’re still growing so it wont be exact on anyones chart…

The thing that will give you a better idea if your “really” fat is the BMI number. You’ll find info there too for that…

I can only go by your pic on here — but I would say, you’re doing things right, and then some, I bet you’re just fine to others…

just walking aq mile a day is not really going to do anything…they say now and days that the juices are made from natural fruits…but its not true because their always injecting some kind of shits inside our foods so what id say go get fruits and vegetables from and outside fle market or grocery shop such as WHOLE FOODS MARKET and PUBLIX and start walking 2 miles per day…and watch out for what you eat for dinner…all those greasy foods…if this doesnt work you can always eat 5 small meals a day.

Answer #5

I don’t eat greasy stuff. Or drink juice that I haven’t squeezed myself.

You may want to go to the doctor to get your thyroid checked for hypothyroid issues. If you have some of the following symptoms, it may be worthwhile: Fatigue Weakness Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight Coarse, dry hair Dry, rough pale skin Hair loss Cold intolerance (you can’t tolerate cold temperatures like those around you) Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches Constipation Depression Irritability Memory loss Abnormal menstrual cycles Decreased libido

A BMI chart only shows averages of what is considered healthy for people who have small to average bone composition without extra muscle or bone mass.

Basically, most body builders and some EXTREMELY LEAN people with slightly more muscle mass or bone mass are over the BMI’s defition of what is ‘healthy’.

Also, believe me eating healthy is awesome but a part of eating healthy that most people neglect is getting all nutrients in necessary amounts to maintain healthy hair, bone, muscle, and skin.

I’ve been largely vegetarian and vegan (going between the two) for about 12 years.

I had thyroid problems that didn’t show up on standardized tests. My hair got thin (I’m not bald, but I just don’t have much hair anymore) and broke SO much more easily, my skin lost a good amount of it’s natural elasticity and started getting dry. I lost most of my appatite but actually gained weight. I hardly had energy to do one task a day, let alone exercise and when I did exercise I was just intensely sore and stiff for many days and actually LOST strength.

If you know your issue isn’t your diet, which is already (hopefully) good. Then start considering other causes.
