That really depends on what aspect you want to train:
If you want to train speed in reaction and hand-eye coordination, then videogames will actually help. If you want to train your puzzling skills, then solve puzzles. If you want to train three-dimensional thinking then learn to solve a rubiks cube without using instructions. If you want to train fast reading skills, then read a lot. If you want to train orientation, then go to places unknown to you without a navigation device.
Whatever you do a lot helps you to become good at similar things.
Kids who do nothing but playing videogames degenerate at other skills. But if you regularly play videogames (and not exaggerate), it will make you better at fast reaction to visual input.
LOL it does not kill the brain. Like Rotten said, it does exercise the brain like any other puzzle.
There's some iPhone and video games that help. Or you can read a book.
Try using your left hand if you're right handed.
