Can I be excused from jury duty if I leave the country?
This is no joke, i have been planning this trip to Spain for the past 3 years. it is a religious event in which i will join over 100 thousand other youth during the month of August. now, tomorrow, i have jury duty. their available excuses limit me to respond by mail so my last option would be to talk to the court about the situation. my main concern is whether or not they would allow it or would i have to cancel my trip i have organized/fundraised/worked for for the past 3 years?
Having other plans does not excuse you from jury duty but you can delay your service if the dates you are summoned for would create a significant inconvenience. Ask to have your jury duty scheduled after you return from your trip.
