should I consider getting emancipated?

I want to get emancipated, and it is not because I don’t get along with my mom. It is because the job that I will be holding next summer requires me to be going to college. I will be seventeen when I start college, and I cannot afford to pay for it. And I know that my mom won’t pay for it. So I figure that if I am (1) emancipated, I will be able to recieve financial aid and such because I am not a dependant. Or (2) moved out, the same thing will happen. But I know that my mom will not allow me to move out. Could I move out when I am seventeen if I have a roomates name that is on the lease? Or should I consider getting emancipated? Even though without my mothers consent this would be very hard.

well. I do have two jobs, one pays 12 an hour and thats a full time job. do the math. . and I wouldn’t plan on living alone, but with a roomate. so, technically I can afford it. I’ve thought about this a lot.

It is very hard to get emancipated from your parents, its a long court ordeal, most of the time it takes months to even go throuh, so by that time im sure you would be close to turning 18 anyways…honey I know right now you probably think things are tough, but I guarentee when you look back on things ten years from now, your going to laugh and wish you could come back to these days…I know you think having your own apartment is going to be great and fantastic, so did I…But you have to realize your not just paying rent, you have utilities, water, garbage, the bills dont go away…O and did I mention your going to need food to ear…female toilitries, honey the list goes on…

No. At 17 you cannot get your own place. Its a long process with the courts you have to go through. They need to know why, you want to leave. And you need to be able to prove to them that you can take care of yourself. and if you get emancipated financial aid, will not support you. Your mother has to also tell the courts that its alright for that. Trust me your only 17, how are you supposed to pay for an apartment which is like 600$ a month not including utilities and bills, and food, furniture. and everything else. its a big responsibility. id just stay at home, if I were you.
