Do I have A.D.D??

My grades have been going down & I told my brother about how its hard for me to concentrate in school unless I wanna do it and he thinks I could possibly have A.D.D and maybe got it from my Dad’s side of the family since my brother has it. I looked it up and I had all these symptoms it listed:

* Be easily distracted, miss details, forget things, and frequently switch from one activity to another
* Have difficulty focusing on one thing
* Become bored with a task after only a few minutes, unless they are doing something enjoyable
* Have difficulty focusing attention on organizing and completing a task or learning something new
* Have trouble completing or turning in homework assignments, often losing things (e.g., pencils, toys, assignments) needed to complete tasks or activities
* Not seem to listen when spoken to
* Daydream, become easily confused, and move slowly
* Have difficulty processing information as quickly and accurately as others
* Struggle to follow instructions. (SomeTimes)

But then I started listing symptoms that have to do with hyper-activeness like:

* Fidget and squirm in their seats
* Talk nonstop
* Dash around, touching or playing with anything and everything in sight
* Have trouble sitting still during dinner, school, and story time
* Be constantly in motion
* Have difficulty doing quiet tasks or activities.

Can you have A.D.D and not be soo hyper-active? Could I possibly have it?? (I’m 14 and I’ve first noticed not being able to concentrate when I was about 12. If you need more details or what not then just ask me.) Thanks!

The symptoms have to have been present before the age of SEVEN. It is highly unlikely you have ADD. I work with teens, they all think they have ADD. Go talk to a counselor, they’ll be able to do an assessment. There’s a reason self-diagnoses dont work.

YES. Thre are several types of Attention Deficiet Disorder or ADD. the first one, is as you listed above the symptoms, unable to focus, easy boredo, dazing etc. the 2nd type is ADHD, which is the same thing, but with the added Hyperactivity. SO yes, it is very possible you have ADD. ask you parents and or school counselor about seeing a pychiatrist, and they can get you on some meds to help you out! I had it when I was younger and the meds helped and my grades improved 10 fold!
