Should I date my best friend?

mike and i have been friends for 6 years. we are very close and have been for a long time. the both of us and our friends all know that if it was to become more than a friendship, i would be very happy. lately mike has also expressed the same feeling and has been making moves on me. i freeze up when he does this because i get nervous about his feelings for me changing. i want him to keep being my best friend, as well as become my boyfriend. but i am afraid that he will treat me different and i may lose his friendship if we cross the line. has anyone had this dilemma or does anyone just have a comment? -thanks-

If I were you, I wouldn’t go for a relationship. It may sound all very beautiful, but I was in the same situation just a few days ago. We liked each other more then just as friends, so we kissed at a party. On Monday, when we saw each other at school, we both didn’t know what to do. Later that day we talked and we agreed we had to behave normal again. But now it’s Wednesday and the situation is killing me. We are very polite to each other, but that’s it. I notice he watches carefully what he does, and I’m not reacting when he says bye or so (that is, when in a big group). This is only going on for three days, but it’s killing me. It feels like I lost a part of myself and it was a very important part. It is a question if it ever will be the same.

I really wouldnt know what to tell u but that I am having the same problem as you! Im 13 and I went out with this guy name Heath he has a best friend named Alex and me and him started to talk…well we started 2 become really great friends and I could tell him anything I would always go to him when I had problems and he would give me advice that would fix the problem everytime. Well my boyfriend started to be a real jerk about me being friends with Alex and got jealous…our school shut down so he broke up with me and Im going to the same school as him next year and I really dont know what to say if h asks me 2 go out with him…If I were u I would sit him down and say look I really like you as a friend but If I went out with you and we broke up our whole friendly relationship might not be so friendly anymore!

You do have feelings for the guy. Go for it. You and him really does have feelings for each other. It is ok. I know that ya’ll have been friends. But do feel what is right for you. Hope all is well. Get with him. Go girl!!! Good luck!!!

i think you shouldn go for it, you both obviously have feelings for each other, and if you dont do anything about it, something even worse could happen, i know because this happened to me…i didnt want to date my best friend for the same fear that you have, losing him as a friend, bu i ended up losing hes friendship anyway because he felt insulted and confused because he knew that i had liked him but i still didnt give in to the love. I think that if you two get together, only good can come out of it, and if it doesnt work out, then im sure eventually you two can go back to being friends. If you have been friends for 6 years, then i doubt either of you will want to lose your friendship, it will work!!! :-)

Honestly, me and my boyfriend where best friends, tighter then anyone i’d ever met, for 2 and a half years! We were both dating different people for those 2 years, and when he told me that he liked me… I knew i liked him, too. When we both became single, we got even closer, and he started pulling moves on me. It was, at first, a little odd, since i wasn’t use to it. But, you’ll learn to get past that, and learn to love him. Now me and andrew (<— boyfriend) is my bestfriend, and my boyfriend, and we’ve been dating happily for more then 7 months! <3 :) I say, go for it! :D
