What powers do demons have over christians.

What powers do demons have over christians. Could my backsliding off and on over the past few years be a result of demonic oppression? What must I do be free?

Answer #1

oh, phrannie…I disagree—

for me the hardest part of forgiveness and repentance is forgiving myself for what I’ve done.

maybe that’s just me though?

Answer #2

Know this too…as it is a “human condition”…forgiving ourselves is way more difficult than forgiving others…that’s the pits, isn’t it?? Believing in a religion isn’t really necessary to “confess” to another…if you’ve commited a crime, where anomonimity is crucial, then confess to a clergy person…Verbalizing our wrongs takes a lot of the weight off.

p

Answer #3

Yes, blame it on demons. That means you don’t have to take responsibility for your own actions, because “the devil made me do it!”

Answer #4

Demons don’t exist. You are backsliding because the rational part of your brain is winning over the portion that was brainwashed as a child.

Answer #5

stevenw1987 you are very ignorant. YOur not intersted in our advice but only that of those that agree with you

FYI I know more about christanity than most christians I just dont agree with it .

and if you already know all why did you ask?

Answer #6

…the only way to be possessed is to ALLOW possession…to put yourself into a position that would allow that. so if you have, then it’s your fault. failing to go to church every sunday or read the bible every day is not demonic possession. stop blaming other things for your shortcomings.

…and yes, I am christian, so yes, I have the right to answer this question…according to you.

Answer #7

I’d have liked to blame demons for my “backsliding”…foretunately I learned that by taking responsibility for my own misfortunes was the MOST freeing of any ideas I’d seen before. Freeing because if offers me the “choice” when a temptation rolls in front of me…resist and feel good about myself (a long term “feel good”)…or give in, and feel good for a few minutes or hours, and then feel like sh** about myself.

It’s all about doing what you KNOW is the right thing, and not doing what you WANT to do…If you want to feel good (free)…turn 180 degrees…

Answer #8

Answer #14

Answer #15

well said gasmanobt3. I love the CEO part :-)

Answer #16

if you are not a christian then dont answer there is no way you can understand. besides I am not blaming my problems on demons…I did something in my past to invoke their presence

Answer #17

You are a child of God. Whether you believe in him or not. Because of you are his child, Satan and his army’s main job is to continue keeping the unbelievers living blindly. Demons and Satan are not red creatures that breath out fire. They are smart creatures that know how your mind works better than you. There is no way to beat a demon or the devil alone in a one on one battle. They are faster, stronger and smarter than you. The only thing to do is stick to Jesus Christ like a little child crying for his life, until your days are over and you get to go to heaven. Life is a test. You’re either gona follow the devil -Atheists are the devil’s number 1 followers, they dont know this because they dont believe him. Any religion other than the gospel of Christ is also influenced by the dark prince. The only way to God and heaven is through Jesus Christ. The only way to defeat the demons and satan and live a happy life, is through Jesus Christ. You are in a spiritual war.

Answer #18

hi,my name is Vici. as a testimony I want to share a little of my life with you ok.No matter what anybody thinks there is a God!I was sexually abused starting at the age of 4 & raped at 13 by my daddy.Only with God was I able to forgive my daddy each time he messed with me and to this day I have a unconditional love for him as well as for all that come into my life. When I was 13 I started going to churches until I found 1 that made my heart feel at home 2weeks later as the pastor layed her hand on me for prayer I fell/past out when I woke up I felt like I was floating & I can HONESTLY say I could feel the Lord beside me and I could even hear him. I am 36 now & I have back slide a few times but I always make my way back because nothing goes right when we TRY to do things OUR way,and my soul & heart get VERY depressed when I don’t have a relationship with the Lord.I have raised my son ,who is 18,to always wake up & greet the Lord & to talk to the Lord like a friend, because that’s what HE is.I walk in the park every mornings, which is also my date with God so I can TALK to Him about my life, son, work, ect.at night I pray for those I have on my heart or for a stranger I met that day. When I was 13 I prayed for the gift of LOVE,to love like Jesus.to forgive like Jesus. I know we do things in life that can haunt us but you must forgive yourself before God can forgive you.I hope & will pray for you babe that whatever it is that hinders you that God give you the strenght to let go. the devil knows our weakness and uses it to bring us down.when you find yourself being pulled down go to someone that can be a positive influence that you trust and PRAY through until you feel God with you,TRUST me it works,I have even closed the door to my room & prayed & read my BIBLE for hours until I could feel God around me.It’s a relaxing, comforting feeling. nice talking to you and I hope to talk to you again. LOVE Vici

Answer #19

Oh, the bible. Wow that’s a whole nother discussion. Something man written, hard to translate, and with thousands of different translations and meanings for each scentence. You believe in the bible: These are also things the bible says: How can you follow a book so ridiculous. Astrology is a Sin: Deut 4:19; 17:3-7; Isa 47:13,14; Acts 7:42; Ezek 8:16 Not taking in a homeless person (how many homeless people live with you): Mt 25:43,45; 1 Tim 5:10 Women can’t wear gold and pearls it’s a sin: 1 Tim 2:9 Wearing the clothing of the opposite sex: Deut 22:5

The bible is so out-dated. It’s from the past, things in the world have changed so much since then. Why follow the bible which was written with the old world in mind.

Answer #20

I think it’s sad that people truly believe that some evil demons come in and destroy people’s lives. It’s a metaphor. You destroy your own life, you are the only one who can fix it, since you are the one who caused it.

Answer #21

Spirits can influence people but, as believers, we have authority over them. I was just involved in a post on anothe site, where someone who truly was possessed was just set free.

All he had to do was to call on the name of Jesus, in sincerity and truth, stating that he knew he has sinned, and did not want to do that anymore. that he really wanted to be free, and that he believed that Jesus Christ had the power to set hiim free.

after praying this way, and commanding the demons to leave him, along with others praying with him, he reported being relaxed… for the first time, in a long time. it was very interesting to say the least.

but as for backsliding.. I think that is just a lack of power on your part.

we are in a struggle, with our flesh, trying to always be in control.

But, when Jesus comes into our heart, by his spirit, then, the struggle begins.

to win, you have to be determined..

and you have to use the tools that God has given for that purpose.

this is called spiritual warfare, as we learn how to battle the things.. that keep us from doing what we know we ought to.

flesh vs. spirit.

fasting gives your spirit the edge over your flesh, and helps you to become stronger ,in the spirit.

reading the word, and getting to know and understand who Jesus really is, helps you grow stronger.

praying does too.

and being with others of like faith.

and worshiping.

all of this is needed to make us strong. in our determination to serve our Lord.

prayers of others help too.

someone said in anothe rpost..

whatever you feed.. becomes stronger… and that is true.

Answer #22

Nailed it Phrannie.

We guide our own destiny on earth. Demons don’t take over our souls nor our bodies and minds. Temptations are all over, however it is your choice whether you give in to them or not. Take responsibility for your actions. Make reparations for what you have done. I don’t know what you may have done, but God cannot take away your responsibility to Man and laws that you may have broken or apologies that might need to be made.

I’m not sure what you mean that you believe in the Bible, but do not believe in religion, unless you speak of organized religion. If you believe in God, confess your sins and ask for forgiveness. If you don’t believe in God, make reparations for what you have done. But know that it is your choices that paves the path you follow, nothing else.

Answer #23

The Devil and his minions seek to destroy persons - their goal - Jesus speaking in a parable here makes that clear, referring to Satan as ‘The Thief’ - clearly our choice to accept or reject - laugh, scoff, make fun of, etc - it’s been seen before at the foot of the cross - that doesn’t change the factual verses below or that a judgement day is coming for all of us:

Our lives combat daily: Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

John 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

John 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to >>> destroy: <<< I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Answer #24

From a fanatical Christian standpoint, demons are dark malevolent spirits, under the Debbul’s command, that drive good Christian people to do bad things (a.k.a. screaming, tantrums, wall crawling, levitating, cursing, projectile-vomiting, crucifix crotch-stabbing, etc.) Apparently, under God-given free will, Christians are vulnerable to mind-control (NOT free-will). Hmm… funny how no one else is succeptable.

Anyway, from a SANE perspective, demons are just another form of ‘divine blame placement’ …a way for weak minded zealots to project their personal shortcomings and/or mental instability (more often the latter), onto a totally fictional makes scary fingers EEEVIL entity.

Answer #25

yes mandyloo I take responsibility for my actions. but you also do not know who I am, and how strange my situation is. I ask this question because I know that the truth is Demons DO come and destroy peoples lives…it is their soul purpose.

Answer #26

Very interesting responses from both sides. Demons, biblically speaking, do not have any control over Christians. Satan is a liar, a deceiver, master manipulater, accuser and CEO of hell itself. The only thing that demons or Satan can do is only what Almighty God allows. Take Job for instance. If you read his story you see that Satan had to ask God for permission to attack Job the way he did. Satan has no access to our thought life and the choices we make are our own. However, Satan has seen you grow up and knows what buttons to push. Your weaknesses etc. Like pornography, gossip and the like. He will try to influence you to sin but the choice is always yours to make. The bible says,” resist the devil and he will flee from you.” As far as backsliding goes, well there’s just one thing to say. Repent. God loves the contrite heart and will receive those who turn from their sinful ways back to a right relationship. We’ve all done things that we’re not proud of and some of us have done inexcusable things but God is faithful. The bible says that if we ask for forgiveness He will give it. Not that we deserve it but because He loves us too much.

Answer #27

if you want to blame all your problems on a mysterious force that causes all bad things to happen to you I dont think there is any chance you will ever stop having problems

Answer #28

Christians have three enemies: 1. The World 2. the flesh and 3. the devil The world is the world system which is an empty system of death. It’s all the media and “off the mark” junk that we allow to fill our minds with. It’s also involves the ungodly systematic removal of every reference to our God.

The flesh is our sin nature within our very bodies. It’s the part of us that’s un-redeemable and unrepentant. It’s what Paul struggled with as his internal battle to do the right thing Vs. doing wrong. We must reckon our flesh as dead evryday and seek God thru studying His word/prayer/fellowship,etc! The one you feed the most (your flesh or spirit) will control you!

The devil (and demons) are those fallen angels who roam the earth to influence people in our flesh/sin nature and the world system. If the demons didn’t have an “ally” in our flesh, their enticements would be rendered null and void. But they being ancient, have an insight to influencing us that we can’t comprehend. These demons hate God and His people. They already have the other people in their control, so we are their primary target.

Whatever you’ve done in the past, God can and will forgive you. Just ask Him in a sincere prayer and know He has cast your sins as far as the East is from the West! In other words, Jesus atoning work on the cross gives true freedom and forgiveness to all who would ask!

If you were dabbling in the occult, then you have opened up a slight gateway for demonic activity in your life. These demons can’t ever possess you if you are a born again Christian, but they may seek to vex (harass) you. Please say a prayer to renounce any occult involvement and the Lord Jesus will keep you in perfect peace as you keep your mind stayed on Him!! I’m praying for you! Other believers please pray too! Thanks!

Hope this helps.

Answer #29

The Devil does not have the power to read our thoughts or know our heart - he can hear our words / see actions - that’s why we must be so careful our words don’t open up a door/portal into our lives for temptation - God knows ALL and He forgets NOT, His own - we, as Christians, at times may fall away from the closeness with Him but He is always with us, never left, never will, always the same - if you have accepted Salvation, Jesus tells us if we confess it and ask for forgiveness, He is Faithful and Just to forgive and remember no more !! - if you’re not saved and want to be pray and tell Him you’re sorry for your sins and ask Him to forgive and come into your heart, He WILL !!

Answer #30

“you know nothing of God the bible and demons and how these things work.”

So now your a phsyic and you know everything about me! Fabulous! Honey I have read the bible, I have believed in God. I actually said nothing of my religous beliefs to you, so you have no idea what I believe in.

Although, if you are messing up your life, it is your fault. Demons dont control you, I dont care what religion you may be. You are responsible for your own actions. Why blame it on things.

Answer #31

Satan had to ask God for permission to attack Job the way he did.

This just makes it seem more likely that Satan isn’t EVIL per se, but that he is working FOR God, to test mankind. As if he’s been given a bad reputation, simply because he has a lousy job.

Answer #32

Christanity has nothing to do with demons. Slacking off on a religion wont attract a demon thats just a scare tactic to keep you in line

Answer #33

demons try their best to mess with our minds and convice us that God is not love. He is, though. you just have to be strong and turn away from those demons. God is stronger than them; they are only strong if YOU make them strong.

Answer #34

Agreed with Jester.

Serioulsy, if your messing up in your life, it’s you doing it, not something controlling you. Take responsiblity for your actions.

Answer #35

please spare me your heathenish reply’s you know nothing of God the bible and demons and how these things work.

Answer #36

but mandyloo how can he when the demons control him

Answer #37

you must not know much about christianity. but thank you for your ignorant reply
