you can put a rubber glove on her hands when she sleeps or get her to put her hands in the stuff to stop you biting you nails. it worked for me good luck

Answer #3

haha. My mother used to put tobasco sauce on my thumb, but it worked. I think for me, I just had to be ready, and sucked my thumb till I was ten.

Answer #4

Wouldn’t clear fingernail polish be toxic in any way? I know I would never put it in my mouth, nor let my child put it in their mouth.

Answer #5

do it like my gandparents did to me and they came from the old country. when there sleeping put hot sause or even hotter pepper sause on there thumbs.

works every time and that nasty nail polish don’t do that to your kids I had a biting problem it was terrible cause the tase would stay in your mouth for a while and if you touched food it would make the food nasty too. at least hot sause has a good after taste lol!

Answer #6

I use to suck my fingers till six grade and all my teeth look fine and I don’t need braces or anything. There will probably be a time when she realizes she is to old for sucking her thumb and she will stop. But if you want her to stop no put a bandaid on her finger so she won’t be tempted to put it in her mouth and you wont be poisoning her with anything that might not be safe to put on her fingers.

It’s not abnormal for her to still be sucking her thumb - a lot of young kids suck their thumbs up until kindergarden or preschool. It doesn’t hurt anything until her permanant teeth start to come in and that’s when it has to be stopped.

Pay attention to your child and see if she is just sucking her thumb because, or if she does it when stress or conflict is involved. If it’s stress and conflict, pay more attention to her during those times.

Reward her for reaching her goal. Set small ones at first. If she goes an hour or so without sucking her thumb - she get’s a reward. Then you can keep moving the time difference longer and longer each time.

Distract her when she trys to put her thumb in her mouth. a lot of times children do it out of boredom. Do an activity with her that involves both hands.

Invite friends her age over who do not suck their thumbs, she will be less likely to do it when no one else her age is.

Answer #8

buy the clear fingernail polish that makes you not want to bit your nails it gives you a bitter taste in your mouth… just put that on her thumb. or even her fingernail of her thumb

Answer #9

Answer #10

Answer #11

There’s a product on the shelf somewhere that you can smear on her thumb that’s foul tasting. Make sure if you use this, though, you put it on both thumbs. lol

A friend of mine, however, used to suck her thumb, too, well into middle school. She eventually stopped but most people keep doing it because it’s like a safety blanket.

Good luck!
