What could cause dark orangish stools and is this normal?

I just changed my son and at first thought he was bleeding, but its not red it dark orange, i checked his temperature and its average. His doctor said not to worry unless he got a fever…but is this normal and would would cause that coloring…

Answer #1

Has he been eating a lot of vegetables? Particularly carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, spinach…any foods high in beta carotene will cause orange stool.

Answer #2

No, not really. He doesnt particulary like most of those so i dont think hes had any in the past couple of days.

Answer #3

Then it’s possible it’s just an added food dye…you mentioned before that he likes lunchables? Those would have added dyes in them (especially the cheeses)….I wouldn’t worry too much…if it were something serious he would be displaying other symptoms.

Answer #4

Ah, i didnt think about the cheese in the lunchables, thanks colleen.
