how do u cure borderline personality disorder??

Answer #1

Well I don’t think someone should try and cure anything like that on their own. My best advice would to be to go to psychiatrist, then they can confirm that you indeed have borderline personality disorder, and get you help. I’m not even sure if that disorder is curable or not. If it is, they will take care of it, if it isn’t they will prescribed you medication to deal with it.

Answer #2

ok thanx, its jus that my sister has it and i was jus searchin everywhere to find advice

Answer #3

No problem :) Happy to help :)

Answer #4

It’s a personality disorder. You dont cure it. You cant cure a person’s personality. The treatment that appears to have the most efficacy (and the literature does support this) is Dialectic Behavioral Therapy. Sometimes it is paired with medication (sometimes mood stabilizers) as part of the treatment, but that is something that usually comes after a recommendation from the psychologist treating the disorder for the person to see a psychiatrist. Really what this treatment does is help the person to relate interpersonally in an effective way, regulate their emotions and tolerate unpleasant situations. Now, this is a really really strong label to be putting on a person. It is quite serious to be labelled as Borderline. So, my first suggestion, get a second opinion. Talk to another therapist (do not say anything about a previous diagnosis) and see what they say. If it is that, the therapist should set up a structured type of treatment.

Answer #5

Answer #8

This may be a rather random question, but did you guys have particularly dysfunctional upbringings?

Answer #9

ye, my mum died wen she was about 12 or 13 and a few years all of my siblings and i wer split up n put into care. i read on the internet that its most common in young women who have had strange upbringings

Answer #10

Yeah, I know of two borderline cases and things were (and are still) horribly wrong in the homes unfortunately. Sorry about your mom. It cant have been easy on you either.

Answer #11

nope, but i just say its life and its going to happen to everyone at some point and i am still thankful to have the rest of my family

Answer #12

That wasnt pity, I promise. Just a little empathy. And about your sister, people react in different ways. Some people are just born a little more sensitive. Things have a larger effect on them. But, seriously, before anything, I really would suggest a second opinion. A borderline diagnosis can have some pretty long term consequences.

Answer #13

well she told me thats what the doctor said, bt i hope its not!! shes not the same anymore

Answer #14

Borderline is not something that just happens overnight. It can get better or worse all the time, but it is a personality thing that does develop over time. When you say doctor, what sort of doctor?

Answer #15

a psychiatrist, she has been getting progressively worse, she says she started to get signs wen she was bout 14

Answer #16

yeah, that does suck. well if she’s seeing a psychiatrist, i’m sure the dr will get her started on a treatment plan?

Answer #17

There isn’t a “cure” per se. The treatment however, is couseling….and group therapy, with others suffering from BPD….
