What is "Borderline Personality" and do I have it?

OK SO This is what happened. I was struck with depression even after having one of the greatest days of my life!…

I came home frome school and started jumpin every where with joy because i got a good grade on my test. Then all of a sudden i stopped, stood still, and tears were clouding my eyes. Then i go in my room and cry. i tried to stop myself from crying…but i couldn’t. So I cursed myself a lot. I didnt even get out of my room for hours. But i finally decided to get out and talk to my mom about my sudden change of emotion. She talked to me about seeing a doc and stuff… Then she used the word “borderline personatily”. What dose it mean? ANd Do i have it??

Dear judymoody100, Unless your mother is a professional she could not make this prediction. It takes many tests to finally determine a personality disorder and then there are more than one kind. More testing to determine how to treat it properly. What could of happened was there was no one around at the time to share in your joy…this would make anyone sad. This is a one definition of borderline personality: A person with a borderline personality disorder often experiences a repetitive pattern of disorganization and instability in self-image, mood, behaviour and close personal relationships. This can cause significant distress or impairment in friendships and work. A person with this disorder can often be bright and intelligent, and appear warm, friendly and competent. They sometimes can maintain this appearance for a number of years until their defence structure crumbles, usually around a stressful situation like the breakup of a romantic relationship or the death of a parent. Sue…good luck

Could be anything from a imbalance of hormones to well, anything else. For instance depending on your age you could be just going through puberty, emotional changes happen like going from joy to tears can be a common thing for people around that age, but it doesn’t mean you have any disorder that you just had a sudden change of emotions. But unless this happens all the time then you don’t really have much to be distressed about. (by all the time I mean frequently at random times not just a single event that only happens rarely)
