This is why I always preach that you have a paper trail on your pets! AND you always MICROCHIP!!! microchip your dogs please.

Many people I sell puppies to will say “oh we most likely won’t register him”. I say PLEASE! do this, It is also a proof of ownership.

Your Vet is a record of ownership. Many Vets now take pictures of their patients and keep them on record for just this reason. This is another reason for always having your dog at the vet’s for it’s annual exam and vacc. and get your city tag, another proof of ownership!

So how many ways have I named now that proves a dog is yours. Oh of course did I say pictures? I always take tons of pictures of our pets.

  1. Take your dog to Vet within 3 days of purchase and have him microchipped. Get him vacc. and get his city license.

  2. Keep a record of all transactions of your pet. Bill of Sale, Vet bills, City tag number etc.

  3. Register your dog if it is a pure breed- with AKC or APRI many registeries are adding pictures to the dogs papers now. This is a proof of ownership

  4. Take pictures of your dog from day one. The day the new family member arrives in your home take pictures. I always have my families send me pictures of their you puppies and them. This also makes a record of ownership.

  5. Go to Petsmart or a pet store and by a tag with your name address and phone number on it about $9.00. Cheap.

  6. Introduce your dog to your neighobors, another proof of ownership.

Have I missed anything?

Oh and since my dogs are pure breeds I have to keep a record of all the owners my puppies are sold to and be able to produce it on demand for AKC or APRI etc.

How did the lady “get him” in the first place? Do you have any paperwork…ie: AKC?…the vets?…the kennel…? Purchase agreement??

You’ll have to tell more to get any intellegent answers.

I do not understand how the judge did not make the lady give the dog back. Do you have papers of purchase?
