Answer #5

It isn’t caused by a bacteria, but it is a virus that affects/attacks a persons immune system so that in the end it cannot fight off any other diseases or viruses (i.e. the AIDS system)

It can be spread via blood or bodily fluids such as v.aginal fluid and sperm. Woman are at a much greater risk of obtaining it sexually as there sexual organs are internal. What is also interesting is that it doesn’t spread through saliva, so kissing if the person is healthy does not put you at risk. You can alos get HIV through oral sex or by using infected needles during dru.gs.

The best way to prevent it would be to have one sexual partner whose HIV status you are aware of and to use condoms whils having sex.

HIV is a virus that damages the human immune system and can lead to AIDS. HIV kills the cells our bodies use to fight infections. When this CD4 blood cell count drops to 200 or below, the diagnosis of AIDS is given. People who have AIDS have severe problems fighting off other infections that most people would not have any problems with, such as flu, pneumonia, and even the common cold. When people who have HIV die, they die from the infections they get because their immune systems have been destroyed. There is no cure for HIV. However, treatments can help people who have HIV live longer, healthier, and increase the amount of time between diagnosis of HIV and diagnosis of AIDS.

HIV is transmitted through unprotected sex, contact with infected blood such as through sharing needles for drug use, and it can be spread from women to their children during pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding.

HIV is not transmitted through saliva or casual contact. You can touch, hug, or even kiss someone who has HIV and not get infected yourself.

HIV does not appear out of nowhere. You can not get HIV from someone who does not have HIV. You can only get HIV from someone who already has HIV.

The problem is that because there are no symptoms, you can not tell if someone has HIV just by looking at them. Many people spread HIV to others before finding out that they are infected themselves. The only way to find out if you have HIV is to get an HIV test. It can not be diagnosed by symptoms or any other testing. Testing is recommended 3 months after possible exposure, followed by retesting 6 months after possible exposure. This is because even though it may take years for someone to see symptoms, more than 98% of people would test positive within 3 months. In very rare cases, it could take up to 6 months for someone to test positive, so it is a good idea to get retested 6 months after possible exposure
