What controls our balance to stay up standing straight?

Some people say our ears, some say if we loose our fat toes we can’t balance??

Answer #1

I’m not sure, but I don’t think it’s ears or toes.

People who have lost an ear can still walk, and balance themselves just fine.

I can stand on my heels without my toes touching the floor, and I can balance my self.

I think it may have to do with our whole body, the symmetry or something.

Answer #2

Its the inner ear, thats why when people loose an “ear” they dont have problems… INside your ear is something called the chloclea(spelling is way off) reguardless it looks like a snail inside it is fluid and a zillion tiny little hairs called cilia… the cilia respond to shifts in the water and tell your brain your orientation… so if your falling to one side the water rotates due to gravity and you can counteract your fall because the stimulus the cilia sends to the brain people who listen to extremely loud music can kill the cilia and end up with worse balance due to less stimulus to the brain… hope that made sense

Answer #3

Yes it totally makes sense I learned this in highschool lol

Answer #4

awesome :)

Answer #5

beardeddragon is correct, also our big toes control our balance to some extent as well. You would struggle to balance if you don’t have one.
