Are you maybe a bit depressed or going through a difficult time in your life? I find that when things are tough that I constantly worry about things just like that, especially regarding the people I care about the most.

Why not try speaking to him about it, it might sound silly, but getting someone to help you rationalize what you will do if it happens, might just help you to stop worrying about it so much.

I think that it is quite normal. Especially if you have experienced the death of someone you love before. You just love that person, and want to be together always. Just concentrate on the good times and don’t think “what if’s”, because anything could happen. Right now, a car could drive off the road, into a brick wall, a brick could crash through the window and hit me in the head and I could die. Really, anything could happen, so just relax :)

You know, I went thru a period of that when I was young and first married to my ex…..it would actually keep me awake at night. Because you are a recovering addict, keep in mind that the addict is still just beneath the surface…..and we addicts have a particular need to have some control in in lives…This would be something that is totally out of your control, and therefore ultra scary. We addicts also seem to get some perverse jolly out of beating ourselves with stuff we can’t do anything about.

You’ve been sober long enough to know how much concious effort it takes to drag that kind of thinking out of your head. Literally saying “OH NO YOU DON’T”, and ousting that thought….conciously, even if you have to picture it being tossed out like a drunk at the bar over and over. Eventually, that thought will enter your head less and less…until one day, it won’t come back.

Use your program on this….I’ve been there….go to a meeting. This is the kinda stuff that gets a foothold until it seems insurmountable. But you’ve already proved that nothing is insurmountable….and this thinking has no place in your sobriety…
