My colleague believes that the reason the company will not fire her (and are basically trying to force her to quit) is because the company will have to pay money to the government. I thought unemployment came from the government?
it usually depends. if they fire a person because they stole something then no they don't pay the person, but if they lay that person off then yea they do have to pay them
Companies do pay into employment insurance - I'm not sure what the rate is where you are, but they could have to pay up to 50% of the employment benefits.
It depends on the state in which you were employed and the reason for terminiation. NY, CA, NJ, RI and some others are really big on paying unemployment.
