Unemployment back pay?

I’ve been layed off for 18 months and living off savings in hopes of finding new job but to no avail. I have a friend in a similar situation and is claiming to be recieving a check for about 8 months worth of unemployment back pay because he just now filed even though he was layed off 8 months ago. Can I file and recieve compensation for the time that I did not collect?

yes, they will back pay you. Then you will get paid for however long they’re now giving out unemployment…which has been increased and is a really long time now.
