classical music

I like beethoven and baroque compositions…am I weird…?

Answer #1

Nothing weird about that. Of course Beethoven is a classical or transition composer (when I went to music school he was considered transitional between the classical and romantic eras but now music schools call him classical).

Beethoven’s 9th symphony is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. It still sends shivers up my spine when I hear a good performance of it. Another favorite of mine is Ravel’s arrangment of Mussorgski’s Pictures at an Exhibition though I think most conductors drag the tempo a bit. I think they are trying to make it more grand but it ends up seeming ponderous. When I played this in college our conductor did it a little faster than most so perhaps this is the cause of my preference.

I’m more into the romantic era of music. I love Wagner, Berlioz, Strauss, Greig, etc.

Answer #2

Not a chance. I’m quite fond of Tchaikovsky myself, plus my niece and nephew like classical music in the form of Disney’s Fantasia. Besides, who wants to be like everyone else anyway? That would be so boring, wouldn’t it? =oP

Answer #3

I cant say I get into all of it, but I do love the dark classical. but no your not wierd

Answer #4

NOT AT ALL!!!

Most of the hard rock musicians have a “classical” background.

one of my favorite all time guitarists plays heavy metal with a classical style- YNGWIE MALMSTEEN.

the band SAVATAGE became “the transsiberian orchestra” and they kick a$$.

it takes all kinds of music to be enlightening, soothing, and fun- listen to what MOVES YOU.

Answer #5

Not at all. I wish I could get into classical music.

Answer #6

Not at all. I have enjoyed Classical music all my life. I consider Beethoven to be the greatest composer, some think Bach is better. L Bernstein siad in a TV program that Beethoven had a “direct telephone line” to God; or it seemed that way. Every note was EXACTLY where it should be in Beethoven’s works. No other note would have been as good. The 9th Symphony is the most powerful piece I have heard.

My favorite Conductor is Fritz Reiner of the Chicago Sympony (1950’s and 60’s). Reiner was different than other Conductors in that he did not have a personal STYLE. He would research the piece he was going to conduct by going back to the Composers orginal manuscript and all the notations on it. His STYLE was that of the person who original composed the musical piece. This means he had a different STYLE for each COMPOSER– exactly the way it was SUPPOSE to be conducted.
