Cat vs Dog

Why is it that everywhere it is potrayed that dogs and cats fight while in real life they actually dont and leave each other alone pretty much all the time unless the cat intentionally messes with them ?

I’ve had dogs all my life, most got on well with cats…it all depended on what the cat did…if it runs it’s begging to be chased…and most cats run…

They’re opposites and it’s a stereotype, like most possibly true but not always true observations. A lot of dogs don’t like cats and vice verse, but like you said, a lot of them just leave each other alone.
