Is the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants a bad influence on kids?

My aunt and uncle won’t allow their children to watch Spongebob. They seem to think it’s a bad cartoon because of some of the things they say on there, or how they act. Also, my uncle says squidwards nose looks like a pen!s. Wth?

What do you think? I think that’s ridiculous.

Answer #1

I think it’s ridiculous, too. It’s a cartoon about a sponge who lives underwater. What could be harmful about that?

Answer #2

There are some things on spongebob that have raised my eyebrow while my son was watching it. They do say and do some pretty sketchy things. However, its not so bad that i would stop my son from watching it. Our cartoons growing up were way worse and filled with sexual refrences and jokes that we didnt understand at the time….we turned out fine. You can shelter your kids from every bad thing in the world. Spongebob is just a cartoon. If you teach your children right from wrong and discipline them cartoons shouldnt affect their behavior.

Answer #3

heck no!

Answer #4

I don’t think Spongebob is a bad influence. Considering I grew up watching the Coyotee always trying to kill the Roadrunner and i don’t try to use acme rockets on people today. ; ) Its a cartoon. Its the parents responsibilty to educate their children over what is right and wrong.

Answer #5

I’ve watched Spongebob since I was tiny and I turned out fine…

Answer #6

It is only a cartoon and i dont think so i sit with my little sister when she watches it and i follow her step by step… she simply cant destinguish what is bad and what is good!? she is so busy focusing how funny spongbob acts!

Answer #7

Even though sponge bob’s character is like 20 years old, flips burgers, and cant pass is driver’s test I dont think young kids really see that or think, oh, im going to work at mcdonalds forever because that’s what songerbob does. i think they just see it as a funny show.

Answer #8

Hah, funny. He says that Spongebob’s nose looks like a male bit. Rorschach test theory, anyone? Children, being children, most likely don’t know what the happy bits are, or do, let alone deduce that Spongebob has one on his face. As Mandy said, children’s cartoons and movies used to be packed full of innuendo and references that the kids just didn’t understand, and as Mandy said, we’re fine, aren’t we? Spongebob doesn’t even have any of this to begin with.

Answer #9

No. I dont actually sit around watching it but i do know that kids dont get certain things. They’re not going to get hidden jokes or things that can be taken in a different way. There’s lots of animations now that have double entendres, kids obviously dont get it, and it’s geared towards the adults that watch it.

Answer #10

No. it depends on the kids way of thinking.

Answer #11

no its a good influence they communicate with each other in a mostly civilised way and keep friends despite everything. The stories are amusing and mums and dads can watch them too without being bored-time with your kids

Answer #12
